Our Middle School Difference
At MSC, middle school feels both bigger and more intimate; students stay in one K-8 community, which research shows supports a safer climate, steadier attendance, and a stronger launch into high school.

Our IB Primary Years Programme naturally progresses into the Middle Years Programme, which turns core academics into concept-driven, interdisciplinary work, while Advisory/social-emotional learning structures keep identities and student voice front and center.
The result? MSC students develop a strong sense of self-efficacy, are active in their own learning and take action in their learning community.

Every spring, MSC partners with Inside Broadway to stage a full-scale, Broadway-style musical under the direction of our theater teacher—the capstone to a K–8 arts journey in drama, dance, music, and visual arts. Past productions include Wizard of Oz, The Addams Family, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Grease, Beauty & The Beast, Legally Blonde Jr. and much more!
MSC middle school students begin every school day with Advisory, where connection, courageous conversation, leadership and community-minded spirit are sparked. Our teachers act as Circle Keepers, facilitating a safe, open space for participants to share with each other. It organically leads to healthy, enjoyable relationships among students and their peers and between students and their teachers.

Students collaborate with Advisors to align on student-led community service. Students also participate in Reading Buddies, which pairs middle school students with elementary students for one-on-one reading sessions to promote literacy.
As a part of NYC's public school community, we treat the city as a seamless extension of our classrooms! MSC students go on a variety of arts-rich field trips all around NYC throughout the year. Students also go on overnight trips such as Frost Valley (6th grade) or out-of-state field trips to historic cities like Philadelphia or Washington D.C. (8th grade).
