Letter from Claire - June 12

Dear Families,


Our Parent Association Executive Board met this week. We all agreed to secure a teacher training with Border Crossers (Border Crossers utilizes creative and interactive pedagogy to engage educators in explorations of race and racism with K-12 students. We believe that if educators have a strong racial justice analysis, and are prepared to have meaningful conversations about race and racism, students will be better equipped to interrupt patterns of racism and injustice in their own lives and thrive in a multicultural society) in September.


We are planning to host a meeting with Border Crossers that includes myself, the members of the Inclusion and Diversity Committee and the PA Exec so that we can customize the parent portion in order to reach as many parents as possible.

From the Classroom

We had our final K-3 town hall. The theme is accomplishment. Gerri and Lindsey class sang Rockin’ Robin.  Megan shared a video of our accomplishments in music. Madelene’s 2nd/3rd grade performed a Japanese dance and Elizabeth R's 3rd class dance shared a dance from Mexico. Thank you Ana for leading town hall. Thank you to the 5th and 6th grade tech team: Nina, Summer, Maya Asher and Erin.


Grades 3-5 had a productive planning session with Meghan from TC. We planned using our planning document on Google doc. Our question for the upcoming year is: how do readers and writers develop independence around goal setting and the use of tools (checklists, learning progressions, rubrics) across units of study (Transference from grade to grade)?


We hosted a Wellness in the Schools Cafe day in the cafeteria. 5th and 6th graders made kale Caesar salad with herb croutons, spiraled carrot with honey lemon vinaigrette and kale chips. The greens came from our greenhouse.


We inducted 5th-8th graders into the Junior International Thespian Society, which honors theatre arts.  Thank you Erin for organizing and planning this important event.
