Letter from Claire - May 15

Dear Families,

Thank you to all the parent volunteers for making staff appreciation such a beautiful experience. One that truly shows what makes MSC such a special place! Thank you Amy Shaw for organizing and planning such an extraordinary event.

Our book room sponsored used book sale was a big hit! Students and staff were so excited to buy books and all left with a book in hand. Thank you to our book room committee for organizing and planning such an important and enriching event.

Elevator Update…

In the past days we have struggled with elevators working in the building.  We truly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.  Like you, we are frustrated by the delay in repairs.  Facilities is responsible for elevator maintenance, and we have been working closely with John Hession, Deputy Director of Facilities in Manhattan in order to get our elevators running again. At this time, mechanics are working to resolve the issues. If the elevators are "on key," which happens when we only have one/two elevators working (it helps ensuring that those with greatest needs have access to them), and you require assistance please let security know, or call the Main Office and one of us will assist.

Arrival and Lateness:

Please make every effort to be on time to school. It is so important that students arrive on time and are not late. Students are expected to be in their classroom by 8:32am. All students, grades K-8, are considered late after 8:35 am. Any student not present between 8:32 and 8:45 am will be marked absent.

Students arriving at school after 8:45 am must go to the Main Office room 516, sign in and get a latepass. If you enter the building after 8:45 am, you must sign in with security and then will be instructed to go to the main office for assistance. Also, for dismissal, adults may come into the building only at 2:50.

From the Classroom:

Our 6th NY Sun Works Youth Conference “Discovering Sustainability Science” at Symphony Space was a great success! Our 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders presented on building sustainable cities and building a sustainable future.

Thank you Sonja, Frances, Oscar, Mario, Ishan, Jade, Levi, Mattias, Gabe, Luisa, Ian, Sahil, Caleb, Julia, Grey, Sasa, Reynece, Isabelle, Milah, Malcolm for presenting such informative and innovative ideas. Thank you Shakira, Amy B, Sharifa and our partnership with NY Sunworks for organizing this impressive and important school wide event.

We hosted our 2nd Welcome to MSC Event for our new incoming families. Our 7th and 8th graders performed two songs from our upcoming musical, Wizard of Oz. Thank you Erin and Megan for preparing our students and the help with the tech.

Thank you Marissa, Alice, Gerri and Lindsey for speaking about all the reasons MSC is such an extraordinary and unique school.

Please come see the MSC musical Wizard of Oz on May 19th and 20th @ 6:30 in the auditorium. The event is free.
