Our MSC/NY SunWorks Youth Conference - Discovering Sustainability Science at Symphony Space was a huge success! The conference serves as a platform for 5th to 8th grade students to share their scientific creativity. It represents an opportunity for many to discover sustainability science by understanding the interaction between humans, technology, the environment and its impact on sustainable development. Big shout out to Brian, Nicole W, Shakira, Stephanie D and our NY Sunworks partners: Sisdel and Manuela for organizing this important and innovative event.
At the conference, 5th-8th grade students presented research, projects and hands on learning from the challenge-based modules and in the greenhouse. Students were very engaged in the special guest/experts: Maria Aiolova - Director, CIEE and Co-Founder, Terreform ONE, Dr. Disckson Despommier - The Vertical Farm and Thor Snilsbeg - CityScience and The Lowline Young Designers Program.
Families and special friends attended and the conference was streamed live. Stay tuned for the link to watch the whole conference.
From the Classroom
6th, 7th and 8th graders were inducted into the Junior Thespian Honor Society.
The ceremony highlights students of theatre and excellence who share their love of theatre. Big shout out to Erin for bringing this society to MSC and for the commitment to honoring our robust arts program.
7th and 8th graders were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Students spoke about the pillars: citizenship, character, service leadership and scholarship. Big shout out to Matthew for leading the group and organizing the event.
I visited 4th grade dance performances. Students shared 4 poses: something seen at a museum, fashion, a character from book clubs and neutral. Big shout to Ana and our collaboration with Heidi Lasky for choreographing this stellar event.
