Spring K-5 Conferences 2016

February 22, 2016

Dear K-5 Families,

Our second round of family conferences will be the week of February 29th.   The goal is for all families to have a family conference.

Ø  Teachers will have a sign-up sheet outside their classroom for families to sign up.

Ø  Evening Session Conference is Wednesday, March 2nd.

Ø  Half day afternoon conference is Thursday, March 3rd.   Students in K-5 are dismissed at 12:00.

What is new for this round of family conferences is they will be student-led.  This new format is child centered and empowers students to take ownership of their learning.   Students will speak to their work and have an active voice in the conference.   Student led conferences help strengthen the close bonds between staff, students, and families as they continue to be a team during conferences.

As families sign up for conferences please remember:

Ø  Student must be present for a conference to take place (a conference must be rescheduled if the student cannot attend).

Ø  The student leads the conference.

Ø  It is also a Chancellor initiative where conferences are student centered, more inclusive, and support student accountability.

Families have access to STARS progress report through NYC Schools Account. For assistance gaining access, contact Maxine at MWitherspoon2@schools.nyc.gov

During the 2015-2016 school year, we will continue to have 4 marking periods with a final mark for the year.  April 11th is the end of the third marking period and families will receive a STARS progress report (Student Transcript and Academic Recording System) as our progress report. For K-5 we will continue to use the 1-4 performance levels.

We look forward to meeting with all of you.

Claire, Darlene, and Kerry
