8th GRADE DC and GRADUATION Parent Meeting

Dear 8th Grade Families and Friends:


We invite you to attend a meeting in Room 619 on April 27, 5:30pm, to discuss the Washington, DC, trip and Graduation. Nicole Rachel and Manuela Zamora and Sidsel Robards will moderate.


As you know the plans for the trip to Washington, DC, is underway.  It is confirmed, the students will depart MSC on Monday, May 18, 2015, 5:30am arrival at MSC for departure , and they will return to MSC on Wednesday, May 20, late evening. 


Nicole Rachel, our 7th/8th grade history teacher, has been working with parent volunteers and the tour operators to craft an itinerary that includes visits to several museums and monuments, thereby aligning the travel program closely with the 8th grade history curriculum. We will hand out itineraries at the meeting.


The fees and scholarships will include the round-trip bus, hotel, meals, and museum tours. The trip will be run by GO Educational Tours, an experienced travel company specializing in student tours. The cost for a parent chaperone is also $400, and the fee will include the bus, hotel, meals, and museum tours, the same as the students.  

The Comfort Inn & Suites at Dulles Airport will provide accommodations, with overnight security specifically for the floors where the students are staying. In addition to the tour operator’s guides, MSC teachers, parent volunteers, and a member of the MSC administration will serve as chaperones.


The Department of Education asks that each child fill out the health form that will be handed out at the meeting.  Return of this form prior to the trip is mandatory.  Without this form on file, a child cannot attend the trip, even if the fee has been paid.



We will be preparing a survey with the students to select a theme for the Graduation.  

To coordinate the Graduation, we will need volunteers to work on the various Graduation Committees.  We will need parents to help with:


1.Graduation Ceremony, this includes practicing with students.  Rehearsal dates are set for June 11 and the June 22 at 8:45-10:00am. Coordinating the speakers and preparing the program.

2.Decorating Auditorium for Ceremony


3.Reception After Ceremony.  We will coordinate with 7th Grade Parents.


4.Dance  (Date and Venue TBD)

We are planning the DC trip and the Graduation ceremony for each child to attend.  Let the fun begin.
