We had two great community events this past week: the Coat Drive and Movie Night. The Coat Drive was a huge success, MSC families donated over 400 coats! Movie night was well attended and it was great fun! Big shout to PTA and their committees for organizing both of these awesome events.
From the Classroom
Lynn and Amy’s kindergarten held a “Hot Chocolate Social.” Families and students read old favorite emergent storybooks. It was great to see students practicing the reading skills they’ve learned with their families. I had the chance to join Laurel's class publishing celebration of three page stories and stories from student lives.
Nancy's 5th grade class held a trial of Christopher Columbus. Students were split into teams to argue their case: Christopher Columbus, Columbus Men, King Ferdinand & Isabella, Tainos and System of Empire.. During the unit, they read primary and secondary sources with the lens of bias, while searching for strong evidence to prove their case. They shared a defense and questions that reflected all the comprehensive research they had done
Heather from TC was on site this week with our 6-8 grade teams. In 6th grade we discussed partner discussion during a mini lesson, read aloud or small group to hold partnerships accountable and to push student’s thinking on how characters are complicated. Our goal is to strengthen peer-to-peer academic conversations about writing and reading. In 6-8 grades our goal is for students to pick a narrative progression and work on one or more as a goal, when reading independently.
Highlight of the Week!
Spirit Week was a great success! Big shout out to student government and Nicki for planning all the events. Thanks to all staff and students who played in the basketball game.
*Reminder, come to Chat with Claire on Tuesday at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria.
Enjoy the break and the time to spend as a family.
