NY STATE SCIENCE PERFORMANCE TEST: Reminder for families of students in grades 4 and 8

May 6, 2014

Dear Families,

This is a reminder for families of students in grades 4 and 8 that the New York State Science Performance Test will take place over a week and a half period beginning May 21 - 23 for Grade 4 and May 27-30 for Grade 8.   This is the hands on portion of the test where each student will work to solve a series of problems set up at stations using various science manipulatives.

The New York State Written Science Test will be given on Monday, June 2 for Grades 4 & 8.

Make ups will begin on Tuesday, June 4.

Families play an important role.  Here are reminders of the kinds of things that you can do to help children feel comfortable on testing days:

  • Make sure your child gets plenty of rest and a breakfast that will carry him or her through the school day.
  • City and State regulations require teachers to begin each test of assessment no later than 9:15 A.M.   Students must arrive on time and be in their seats and ready to work by 8:25 A.M. on test days.  Please make sure your child arrives at school on time and is ready to work.
  • If your child is sick, DO NOT send him or her to school on that day (the makeup test will be given the following day).
  • Please bring two sharpened “Number 2” pencils to school.

Thank you,

Darlene Dooley
