This past Friday was our last first field trip Friday for this year. Thank you for all the participation and planning you all did with the teachers to make this new tradition a success. Thank you for your flexibility and openness to a new routine that really benefits our students. Especially since NYC is a learning lab where students can continue to explore hands on learning as a community of learners. We are continuing first field trip Friday in the 2017-2018 school year. Think about ways you can help and volunteer.
From the Classroom
We celebrated 7th and 8t grade students who were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (a national organization that recognizes academic achievement). Students spoke about scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. Thank you Matthew for planning and organizing the beautiful event and to the parent volunteers for hosting a beautiful reception.
K-2 had a productive planning session with Valerie our staff developer from Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. We planned using our planning document on Google doc. Our question for the upcoming year is: how do readers and writers develop independence through the use reading and writing units of study? What are the artifacts? Take observational data. What are the pillars of workshop?

Arrival and Lateness:
Please make every effort to be on time to school. It is so important that students arrive on time and are not late. Students are expected to be in their classroom by 8:32am. All students, grades K-8, are considered late after 8:35 am. Any student not present between 8:32 and 8:45 am will be marked absent.
Students arriving at school after 8:45 am must go to the Main Office room 516, sign in and get a latepass. If you enter the building after 8:45 am, you must sign in with security and then will be instructed to go to the main office for assistance. Also, for dismissal, adults may come into the building only at 2:50.
