Field Trip Friday was a success! From our middle schoolers seeing a movie based on a novel they are reading to classes going on: a tour of the Whitney museum: to participate in the museum’s “Artist as Storyteller” program, designing pottery, visiting the African burial ground, New York City Center for Space Science Education and that is only a few of the classes. Students and parent volunteers shared how much they learned and teachers were excited to celebrate heightened student engagement. We are looking forward to our next field trip Friday on February 3rd. Thank you to all parent volunteers who were chaperones. Please continue to sign up to chaperone on upcoming trips.

From the Classroom
Meghan, our TC staff developer was on site working with grades 3-5.
3rd Grade: We discussed small groups in Writing and structures for implementing small group during Writing Workshop. Using writing checklists to plan for writing small group instruction. Leaning in on key strands for each week of a writing unit.
4th Grade: We decided toe end the literary essay and historical book clubs by February break. We created a plan and schedule for small group instruction and conferring in reading and writing. For reading to pick a skill from reading progressions and that is the explicit teaching in small group. For writing, pick a skill from checklist and teach in small group.
We updated the calendar and decided to complete Argument reading and Writing by February 3rd. We made the decision to use text sets for reading and writing.
