First PTA General Meeting on Tuesday, Sept 29

The first PTA General Meeting of the 2015-2016 school year will be next Tuesday, September 29 at 8:45am in the Auditorium. 
Meeting includes: new PTA board introductions, volunteer committee sign-up tables, and a Chat With Claire Lowenstein, our Principal. Coffee served at 8:30, meeting starts promptly at 8:45am. See you there!
 


Invoices For October PTA Payment 

Please submit outstanding invoices for the PTA by Friday September 25. The October check run for reimbursements will occur the first week of October. Invoices can be submitted electronically to the PTA Treasurer at: FMSCtreasurer@gmail.com, or by hard copy in the PTA Treasurer mailbox in on the 5th floor, Room 516. Thank you! 


Attention: 5th Grade Parents

Dear Fifth Grade Families:

I wanted to take the time to deliver a few friendly reminders as we approach the middle school application process. This year the process is starting much sooner than in years past. I am sending with your child the 2016 Middle School Directory. It is very important that you read pages 1-3 in order to become familiar with the entire process.

The applications are generated by the Office of Student Enrollment Planning and Operations (OSEPO) based on the information that is available on ATS. Please make sure that if you have moved or changed any information on your child’s emergency card, that it has also been changed on ATS, otherwise your child’s application will likely have errors on it. You can check your child’s information by speaking to Tatiana or Virginia in room 517. You can also email them at vvizcai@schools.nyc.gov and thoover2@schools.nyc.gov. Once you receive the applications please check for errors, as they would have to be corrected prior to submission. Also keep in mind that the attendance and standardized test scores will be based on your child's fourth grade year and not the present fifth grade.

We are expecting to receive the middle school application in November and will be distributing them to each child as soon as they arrive, so please be vigilant to check your child’s back pack. In the meantime please go on school tours and get as much information about all the available programs so that you are ready to make an educated decision once the applications arrive. Remember to rank your schools appropriately and in order of preference. Schools will be ranking the students as well; therefore, the order in which you rank your schools is extremely important. MSC students who rank MSC are guaranteed a seat in next year’s sixth grade.

The applications will be due to back to your child’s teacher prior to Tuesday, December 1, 2015 to give them as well as myself ample time to process the applications before the holiday break. Late applications may result in a delay in the processing of your child’s application by OSEPO and jeopardize the results you receive in May.

It is very important for parents to attend District 3 Middle School Fair on September 30, 2015 from 5:30-7:30PM. It will take place at The Young Diplomat Magnet Academy (P.S. 242) 
134 West 122 Street, Manhattan NY 10027. You will meet middle school representatives and get information regarding upcoming Open Houses and school tours. 

Our 1st Annual MSC Middle School Parents ("Fireside Chat") will be taking place onMonday, September 28, 2015 from 5:00 to 6:30PM in the auditorium. Please check the flyer for further information.
