We still have a few spots left in Knitting II, which starts on Wednesday, March 25th.
Classes meet on Wednesdays from 3:15 – 4:45 in Room 303.
The focus will be on learning to read simple patterns involving both the knit and purl stitches. Students should already be proficient in the knit stitch.
If you are interested in enrolling your child in this class, please speak directly to Elizabeth (Room 317). Please note that we have a limited number of scholarships. If you are interested in your child receiving reduced tuition, please speak to Elizabeth prior to completing the enrollment form. In the interest of equity, we want to extend this courtesy to different students each cycle.
Additionally, enrollment is limited to ten students.
Bricks 4 Kidz NYC is pleased to announce that they are having a Kidz Night Out event next Friday, March 27 from 5:30pm - 8:30pm. Children will participate in a fun workshop that uses model building with Lego bricks to teach concepts of STEM. They will also play games and activities, watch a movie, and provide pizza and popcorn. Please view the flyer below for more information.
Happy spring! As we continue our decade-long work, I am delighted to share with you all that's going on with WITS. We are making traction each and every week and continue to learn from you and your communities. We are in this to win it, and work towards the Alternative Menu as the norm for all kids across the city.
Here are some highlights:
*WITS is proud to be partnering with the Tisch Center for Food, Education & Policy at Teachers College Columbia University on a three year evaluation to better inform our work.
*WITS continues to consult and has deepened its partnership with The Office of SchoolFood on the Alternative Menu.
*Fresh, less processed ingredients, along with fruits, veggies and salad bar, continue to be the "norm" within our daily menu across all the schools with whom we partner.
*We will honor Eric Goldstein, CEO of SchoolFood at the WITS benefit, because of our long standing partnership and shared commitment.
*Our development team is meeting with Council Members in school districts across NYC in an effort to bring the Alternative Menu to more and more schools.
*I am thrilled to share Nancy's (and WITS') fabulous feature in American Way, the in-flight magazine for American Airlines. Please see the attached article.
*WITS Potato and Carrot Labs have begun! WITS Chefs are making roasted potatoes, potato salad, or braised carrots with the kids. You may have received an email from your WITS Chef, but if not, and would like to help, please contact Ting: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please take a look at the WITS Labs Brochures on our website.
*Wellness in Schools for Everyonel (WISE) Contest:
As part of our 10 year celebration, WITS is running a contest to implement a wellness project in your school. The contest details (rules, winning prize, etc) are on the WITS website. Your WITS Chef is sharing the information with you and your teams. Please let us know if you are interested in this competition and how we can support.
*If you would like to sign up for the weekly emails from Office of School Wellness, send an email to email@example.com and write "subscribe" in the subject line. Feel free to share this with anyone who might be interested at your schools.
I thank you for your support and commitment to WITS. It has been a long winter, and I am ready to taste spring!
