Lice Clinic on Oct 20th in room B-17 at 8:45
_______________

Dear Families,

It's hard to believe that October is already upon us! Now that the school year is in full swing, the PTA and I hope you and your children have acclimated into a nice routine. The return to school inevitably brings along with it unwanted cases of head lice. Do not be alarmed! At this point, we have not heard of any lice outbreak in the school; this letter is simply to prepare our families for when it does occur.

Firstly, let’s dispel a couple of myths: There is no stigma when someone has lice. They are not a sign of an unclean home or child and while they are annoying, lice are not dangerous. Every school gets lice, public and private alike. By being aware, we can prevent their spread.

So what are lice?  Lice are tiny insects that live on humans and feed on human blood. Lice are usually found in hair, most often on the back of the neck and behind the ears. Lice are all too common in elementary school-age children. While lice cannot fly, they do spread easily from one person to another through close contact or through shared clothing or personal items (such as hats or hairbrushes).

Early detection of knits (lice eggs) and treatment is key to preventing the spread of lice.  On October 20, the PTA will be hosting an informational session on lice, lice detection, removal and treatment. The session will take place at 8:45-9:15 in room B17.  Please attend.   In the meantime, review the attached links to online resources.
