Hello my name is Shakira and I am so lucky to teach K-5 Environmental Science in our rooftop hydroponic greenhouse. Your child will visit our third floor hidden haven once a week to learn about systems, cycles, the environment, conservation, as well as engineering projects. In addition, students become greenhouse maintenance experts as they learn how to care for the plants and animals. How can you help your child? The greenhouse is a very exciting place to be, with lots of things to touch. PLEASE remind your child to calmly follow our three rules: 1) Walk at all times (please help us with this one- kids want to run in the greenhouse!); 2) Hands on your work (as in don’t touch what you don’t have permission to touch); 3) Respect people and materials (this is an easy one for our kids). If your child forgets a rule, I will send home a note, which you will need to sign and return. Other ways that you can help: We can always use donations of these gently used items: toothbrushes, baby bottle brushes, kitchen brushes, clean rags, and small brooms. If you would like to volunteer before or after school, let me know!
